Sony has introduced a new compact, lightweight professional camcorder, the HVRV1P, further enhancing its range of professional HDV products. Like the existing industry proven HVRZ1P and HVRA1P, the HVRV1P offers ground breaking innovative features for the film and documentary maker.
The HVRV1P is the first HDV camcorder to incorporate "3 ClearVid CMOS Sensor" system for optimum picture quality. Coupled with Sony's Enhanced Imaging Processor (EIP) which internally process signals at 1920 x 1080 4:2:2 colour space along with, high sensitivity, low noise and wide dynamic range enables the HVRV1P to deliver unparallel HD images.
Thanks to the 3 ClearVid CMOS Sensor system and EIP, the HVRV1P supports 25p progressive scan mode, in addition to popular 50i. The 25p scan signal is recorded as a 50i signal by dividing each frame into two fields. Existing HDV NLE software can edit this 25p scan material, and output the final master as:
- A sequence of still images at 25 fps, for film out
- A 25fps YUV (uncompressed) HD file, for output to Cinealta products
- A 25fps SD MPEG2 file, for the highest quality DVD mastering possible
- A 50i HDV file, for creating an HDV edit master
- A 50i YUV (uncompressed) HD or SD file, for outputting to Digital Betacam or HDCAM for broadcast.

Video professionals can be confronted with tight production schedules and balancing time with creativity can become a dilemma. The Sony HVRDR60 frees you from such dilemmas by allowing instant editing of your video footage.
The HVRDR60 offers a unique hybrid concept, in which video material with synchronised time code can be recorded to hard disk and the camcorder tape simultaneously. Simply, connect the HVRDR60 to a PC running compatible Non-Linear Editor (NLE) software. Resulting in immediate recognition by your PC of recorded data files for a dramatic improvement in editing efficiency. With the HVRDR60, the time consuming digitising process is a thing of the past.
The HVRDR60 offers users two modes - video mode and computer mode. The video mode allows users to review content either via the camcorder, a display monitor or VTR through the
i.LINK connection. This mode also allows continuous and seamless looped playback if required. The computer mode allows high-speed transfer of either .m2t or AVI Type 1 direct to a PC.
Another huge appeal of this Hybrid configuration is its improved efficiency in archiving operations. With your source footage available on tape and hard disk, you can immediately store the source tape in your video library without having to make copies. Your work footage is already available on the HVRDR60 hard disk.
The HVR-DR60 is a compact recorder and an ideal companion for Sony’s professional HDV camcorder range.
The 60GB hard drive offers 4.5 hours of continuous recording via i.LINK and is capable of recording video images in either Standard Definition (SD) or High Definition (HD) depending on the camcorder and user requirements.
The HVR-DR60 offers users the flexibility of recording to both the camcorder and the disk simultaneously, ideal when video back-ups or longer recording times are required.
File based, workflow options are enhanced providing high-speed access to NLE systems and random access to video files.
Utilising the FAT32 file system the HVR-DR60 adopts the .m2t file format for HD recording and AVI Type 1 file format for SD recording.
Trick features like HDD Smart Protection through three advanced technologies are used to ensure the reliable recording performance of the HVRDR60.
- Rubber shock absorbers hold the HDD unit in place, preventing external shock being transmitted when the HVRDR60 chassis is subject to impact.
- A 3G sensor detects gravitational acceleration in three dimensions, so however the HVRDR60 may be oriented, the sensor can detect if it has been dropped, in which case, power to the HDD is shut off and the recording heads are retracted from the disk platters, pausing read/write operations. This protects the HDD from being damaged when the unit is accidentally dropped and subject to strong impact.
- The third feature is a buffer memory, capable of storing approximately 14 seconds of video and audio footage. Recordings are made by first writing the data to the buffer, and then writing the buffer data to the disk platters. Consequently, if the 3G sensor temporarily interrupts disk writes, video footage is not lost.
This combination of sophisticated technology will ensure that the HVRDR60 will continue to work even when dropped from a height of 100cm.
With the HVRDR60 you can use the same L Series batteries that power the HVRV1P, HVRZ1P and DSRPD170P. Record times of up to 13.5 hours are possible using a high-capacity NPF970 battery.

Sony XDCAM Drive Unit PDW-D1
Main Features:
- i.LINK Interface Supports both File Access Mode
and AV/C Protocols. The PDW-D1 supports not only File Access Mode but also AV/C
protocols on an i.LINK interface, so it can be easily connected to existing DV-based NLE systems. By accessing this unit with the
AV/C protocol, the DVCAM format can be recorded onto or played back from disc. In File Access Mode, high-resolution AV
files (both MPEG IMX and DVCAM) can be written.
- i.LINK (DV Stream) Output from MPEG IMX Recordings. By playing back a disc recorded in MPEG IMX format from a NLE with the AV/C protocol, a signal converted to the DVCAM format
can be output.
- Automatic Proxy AV Recording. The proxy AV data is a low-resolution, MPEG-4 based version of
the full-resolution MPEG IMX/DVCAM stream. When high-resolution AV is recorded by AV/C protocol or written by File Access Mode on disc, a proxy AV file is automatically generated and
recorded beside the high resolution file in the same manner as the other XDCAM products. In File Access Mode, Proxy AV files can be uploaded to a PC 30 times faster than real time.
- Metadata Recording. XDCAM can record various type of metadata together with video and audio data, such as the date and time of shooting, the cameraman, the recording method and comments about the materials. The PDZ-1 Proxy Browsing Software allows various kinds of metadata, including essence marks, to be stored on the disc and clip list write-back is also available.
AC, DC & Battery-Powered Operation.
- The PDW-D1 supports not only AC-powered but also DC or battery-powered operation (which requires the optional BKP-L551 adaptor). Its highly compact design and batterypowered operation allows field editing in combination with a
laptop PC.
- Compact Design. With a compact and lightweight design, the PDW-D1 can easily
be placed on journalists’ and editors’ desks. It measures just 78 x 182 x 257 mm and weighs only 3kg. It can be used horizontally or placed upright, allowing users to position it as desired, even in space-constrained or awkward environments.
Setup Utility Software. By installing the supplied setup utility software on a PC, it is possible to carry out setup, maintenance and system menu
operations. Software updates can also be carried out using this utility software. The utility software operates using the FAM (File Access Mode) protocol and therefore requires the FAM
driver (supplied) to be installed on the PC.
System pack consists of a lavalier microphone, bodypack transmitter and portable tuner.
Suitable for a wide range of applications, from news gathering and interviews to talk shows and conferences.
The lavalier microphone is supplied with a microphone windscreen and microphone-holder clip.

Sony LED Video Light
Using LED as a light source has the advantages of high intensity (600lx, 1m), extended life (10,000 hours), and low power consumption (16w).
The HVL-LBP is designed to provide the optimum spread for wide-angle shooting with the HVRV1P: it illuminates with uniform intensity right across the field of view. Using the attached condensing lens, you can concentrate light in the center of the picture. The attached diffuser makes it possible to soften shadows and reduce contrast.
To power the LED light you can use the same L Series batteries (NP-F970/770) that are used for HVRV1P, making this accessory as cost-effective as it is useful. When the HVL-LBP is attached to the cold shoe of the camcorder it is possible to use the battery adapter to achieve a good weight balance for the camcorder. You expect up to 3 hours of operational time using a NP-F970 battery.
